Slowly spreading our wings to the whole country South Mumbai Chess Academy (SMCA) inaugurated a new full time chess center in one of the emerging metros of India, Hyderabad - the city of Nawabs on 17 February 2018. The chess center was inaugurated by Telangana Chess Association Secretary Mr. Prasad and the former manager of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Mr. Partha Sarathy.


SMCA is one of the prime chess academies of India which has produced great talent and winners who have proved themselves to the state and country time and again. Headed by FIDE Master Balaji Guttula and Durga Nagesh Guttula, the academy has now taken initiative to open full time chess centers all over the country to promote chess and to produce more talent from various parts of the country.


The chess center opened in Hyderabad is a full time one. The center is equipped with all modern coaching equipments to help new talents to train. The center is situated at the prime location of Secundrabad at Bowepally area. Further, the center will set up more branches all around Hyderabad in future. The center will be headed by Mr. Shrikanth Sharma who is a reputed coach and an international rated player.

Talking about the vision of SMCA, Balaji Guttula said, “Providing quality coaching is our motto.” He further added that they would also be organizing more coaching camps to discover the talented kids and polish them into world class chess champions.


When asked about where is the net stop for SMCA to set up a new chess center, Durga Nagesh Guttula said, “We would be setting up next in Chennai, Kolkata and Vadodara.”


SMCA is taking a lot of efforts to set up these centers so that chess, which is a noble sport and the sport of the mind is taken more seriously and more and more new talent comes out in every age category.
