Rishab Shah draws with GM Goloschapov

The South Mumbai chess Academy (SMCA) & IIFL Private wealth management are leaving no stone unturned to train the city kids in the best possible way which will in any way help in developing the game in India. From organizing coaching camps to exposing the players to renowned Grand masters and conducting International tournaments, SMCA has done it all in the last few years.

One such simultaneous Exhibition chess match with Ukrainian Grandmaster Alexander Goloschapov was conducted at the Kamla Mills Compund’s in Lower Parel ,Mumbai on Saturday. A total of 40 kids competed with the GM, of which former Singapore Open champion Rishab Shah of Cathedral & John Connon School managed to squeeze out a draw, creating flutters all around.

Goloschapov is one of the top 10 coaches of the world who has also worked with Indian Grandmasters Parimarjan Negi, Shardul Gagare, SP Sethuraman in past. While among the participants were many promising players including Schools silver medallist Mrudul Dehankar from Nagpur and reigning Under-7 World Schools Blitz Champion CM Kush Bhagat.

The Ukrainian GM was stunned with the talent mumbai city has in the game. “They are anyway talented and this exposure will help them go to places. It’s also an opportunity for them to showcase their love and commitment chess,” he said.

The parents of the kids too were happy as their kids got a taste of top class chess. “its a great initiative by SMCA and IIFL to provide such a great platform for kids and i'm really happy and thrilled to see the competitiveness in my son", ankit miglani father of six-year-old, Aarav said.
